Default Somerville and Skillman

My friend and I are college students and we have both obtained 6 month internships from different divisions of Johnson and Johnson. I will be working in Somerville and he is in Skillman. Mapquest has told us the two towns are about 20 minutes apart, so we wanted to try to find a place (probably a 1 bedroom apartment) to live together in a decent area that would allow a reasonable commute for both of us. Neither of us are from the New Jersey area and we don't have any idea where to start looking. Obviously since we are "poor" college students we don't need anything too fancy or upscale, and we need a 6 month lease.

We would greatly appreciate any suggestions. Thanks in advance for any assistance or advice.

You probably can find something in Somerville, Skillman has no real town center. You can probably also find some part time waiter jobs in one of the many Somerville restaurants. I know internships don't pay much if anything.

Good luck.

Isn't J&J helping you with this? I interned at Kraft just for a summer and they set us up with apartments. They paid pretty well for an internship (not much less than a starting salary with a BS) so I'd think that J&J would do the same.

Somerville probably is the cheapest town. Just not sure how many people are looking to give out 6 month leases. There are some not-so-great areas of Somerville though (south of the main street going toward 206) so just be a little careful. Somerville has a nice downtown area and would be a nice place to live otherwise.

Claremont Towers in Hillsborough http://www.claremonttowers.com/ also has 6 month options and would be pretty central to Skillman and Somerville.

I thought Pike Run in Montgomery had some corporate apartments which might work. I know it's not a cheap complex but it's safe and convenient if J&J could hook you up with anything there.
