I hope the workers on the power trucks that come from the states that NJ has on the hot spots quarantine for 14 days before they help anyone. Also they should answer the phone from the contact tracers. Overtime galore.

Many people in 3rd world countries have generators. Since many live off the grid. If you live like in subtropical area and never use the heat it may actually be cheaper to use generator for a small home then on the grid.

i took my approximate installation cost of $13k and divided it by the hours. its still not complete since there have been 2 annual maintenance visits that i believe cost about $250 each. so we can use $13,500 if we really want to keep a good running number of the cost. i just like to give people numbers because that is what i like to see. i also like to look at it as an hourly cost because that is how i value it; hours of normal life that otherwise i wouldnt have had.

Ah, ok.

Then that hourly cost will go down every time you use the generator in the future, right ?

yes. the more it gets used, the lower my cost per hour is. i typically hope for outages so that it further justifies the investment i made.

me texting my wife to see if we were on generator power during the storm:
