I have a friend who is looking to rent a house. They are considering Rutherford. They found a house in their budget What kind of a town is it? Is it decent, or should they avoid it? I know it is in Southern Bergen County. What are the pros and cons? They are also considering Teaneck. They like that a lot.

Thanks.

Rutherford and Teaneck are different towns that offer different things. Does your friend care about public schools? If so, Rutherford is the better choice. NY Commute? Again, Rutherford is a great option because it's one of the last train stops into Secaucus. Rutherford has a nice downtown as well.

Teaneck is very diverse, and it's a good town, but the schools aren't great. It has a large Orthodox Jewish community, so Saturday is not a very happening day on Cedar Lane.

But still need to know more about your friend. Married? Single? Kids? Do they want an apartment or a home? If your friend is single and looking to rent an apartment, Hackensack, Montclair, and Englewood would be better options.

Confirm that the house is not in a flood zone. If it is, make sure they don't put important stuff in the basement or even the first floor.
Rutherford is a nice town.

My friend is a widow in her early 60s. She will be moving with her daughter, son-in-law and 1 year old boy. They want a home. She works at NYU downtown, but will only be commuting once or twice a week.
