The fares for the new ferry have been published and they must be out of their minds if they think enough idiots would pay these absurd prices. Union County residents must pay $13 EACH WAY to ride, whereas non residents must pay $28 ONE WAY. Are they on drugs? I guarantee this ferry will not last. It only costs $7 each way via train or bus.
That's even more expensive than the ferries from Middletown and no break for area residents down here. $28 one way is a hard sell, but the monthly pass here is 695 and plenty of people pay it. It is a much better ride.
I’m starting to get the sense that you’re a bit of a cheapskate
i mean tbf, thats kinda high. NJ wants more people to take Public Transit, but the fares are really high for no reason.
Im in transit planning, fare box revenue is only 10-20% of revenue. They can afford a decrease in fares to increase ridership/lower congestion/increase productivity&QOL
and the schedule is horrible too
only departs NJ:
6:20am
8:20am
12:20pm
3:20pm
5:20pm
only departs NY:
7:30am
9:30am
1:30pm
4:30pm
6:30pm
Who does that work for? If you have to be in early, you can get in at 6:50am, but you would probably have to leave work at 4:10pm to make sure you catch it, of if you cannot leave that early, I guess you are in for a 12 hour workday. Sure there are a few people this might work for, but it must suck if you miss it and have to figure out hour to get home
Glad i quit working in NYC. Afterwards, I had all this disposable cash that was nice to have. Sometimes you don't realize the cost of commuting into NYC which had a cost upwards to half my mortgage payment each month.
I mean, it's $9 from uptown Hoboken, a ride of about 5 minutes directly across the Hudson River. And people happily pay it to avoid the clown show that the Port Authority is, or waiting underground on the PATH. From my vantage point, $13 seems like a steal given how far it is. I wouldn't pay the non-resident fare, but don't think there's a ton of New Yorkers hoping to visit Elizabeth and this seems designed for residents.
Has anyone priced out the cost of boat fuel lately? This is what public transit looks like without subsidies...
