I am in the process of framing up my unfinished basement in Hopewell Township (Central Jersey). I would like to know how much space I should be leaving between the heating unit to the framed wall if I was to cover the heating/air conditioning unit. Similarly, how much space should I leave (if any) between the water pump to the framing as per the local code?
No idea, but do NOT cover and close the area when you're done. It needs air to operate correctly. If you install a door, I think a louvered door is supposed to go there.
Unless you have a direct vent type unit where it gets air from outside. Then you might be OK, but you certainly have to check. good luck.
Sounds like something you should be talking to the building department about.
