after 1230am buses stop running across the george washington bridge from new york to new jersey

i'm just wondering if anyone knows if there's a 24hr bus to take or the next cheapest option to get over the bridge late at night

one time me and friend took a cab at 2am from downtown to 10 min over the bridge in new jersey and it was 50 bucks total, which is pretty insane

please give your insights, thanks

I do not know if those shuttles are still running

basically if you go to the lower level of the GWB terminal (not the subway), you should see them

or else you will have to walk across

i'm not 100% sure about this, but there might be all-night shuttle buses to cliffside park and fort lee from the port authority bus terminal in midtown. these vans would leave from inside the terminal or outside on the street.

if it's the former, it would be on the lower level. if it's the latter, it would be on w. 42nd street between 8th and 9th avenues.

there are definitely 24 hour shuttle buses that depart from outside the bus terminal and pass through union city, north bergen, weehawken, etc. as a last resort, you could always take one of these vans to the north bergen/fairview line and then catch a cab from there.

unfortunately there isn't any timetable or website that i know of that provides more information about these shuttles. you just have to ask around at the bus terminal and find out for yourself.

if you do find the answer, please post here when you get a chance - people ask about this all the time.

thank u for that informative response....i might try that one day but it is hard to believe that if those buses really do run 24 hours that they don't stop by the george washington bridge bus terminal on their way to new jersey no?

The NJ Transit 159 bus connecting New York to Fort Lee departs Port Authority Bus Terminal at 1:40 am, 2:50 am, and 3:30 am, 7 days a week.

The bus goes through the Lincoln Tunnel and turns north through northern Hudson County before arriving in Fort Lee.

The fare is $3 or $4.

all of the shuttle vans that leave from the port authority bus terminal in midtown go over the lincoln tunnel and then work their way north through hudson county. they do not head north from midtown toward upper manhattan, which means that they don't make any stops at the gw bridge bus terminal.

the shuttle buses that operate from the gw bridge bus terminal only serve the upper manhattan-to-northern nj corridor.

as an earlier poster mentioned, you might want to consider the nj transit 159 bus from midtown if it takes you where you need to go in nj.
