Do you know any interesting towns in the state that are worth a visit? My list includes many NE NJ cities like Newark, Paterson, and Hoboken although I'm planning to visit Morristown.

Paterson ?
unless you're going to see the Great Falls, not much there.

you can pass on Newark all-together...

Hoboken, the town of Sinatra.

Lake Hopatcong, for NJ's best representation of lakefront living.

Seaside Park, for NJ's best representation of shore living.

Morristown and Atlantic City of you have time...

It really doesn't have to be anything specific. It just has to be a town that stands out, is unique.

NJ is really diverse and has EVERYTHING -- cities, cute villages, wilderness, mountains, beaches, urban and suburban settings, highways, country roads, tons of history, culture, etc. If you give some categories of interest, folks here will be better able to make suggestions to you.

I think Paterson may have had a high crime rate, but I went through it once and it seemed full of mid Eastern people.
Probably, after 911, it is now full of government plants.
Some of the shops looked interesting. I would have liked to have stopped in a bakery or two.
Parking was not readily available.
It was interesting.
I enjoy photography and like people with character in their faces, people who look as though they've had a life.
I like ethnic neighborhoods.

Huh??????

Newark Museum, Branch Brook Park, Its numerous Gothic cathedrals, NJPAC, catch a show or game at Pru Center, an abundance of ethnic food.
I would even suggest going to a lounge in the Ironbround section, grab a drink & strike up a conversation with the patrons.
Not everyone is a sheltered ex urbanite scared of brown people.
Newark most certainly has something to offer. I would say it is far more interesting than.......................Lake Hopatcong? Sure it's nice & scenic, but where are you going to eat, who are you going to talk to?
Does NWK have its problems? Absolutely, a lot of them. I would not suggest walking around random neighborhoods at night, but I would not suggest that for a lot of cities.

I've been to my share of poorer towns so I would like to take pics of more upscale cities.

Also rural areas and the "woods" would be nice.

Ethnic towns would also be nice.

Towns that are rich in culture.

Shore towns.

And cute villages.

Clinton! CLINTON!!! *holds sign up* Underrated (?) Red Mill Museum (and ignore the possibility of ghosts being there although, it does feel eerie). You learn some of NJ's history right there. Very interesting small downtown. Small set of falls. Nice cafe shops/eateries/other shops. Besides Red Mill, there's also an art museum. Worthy of a day trip.
