Just the name "Christie" brings back bad memories of the Bird Woman, Christie Slob Whitman. It was like having a clucking hen for a governor. She was our own version of Sarah Palin - a know-nothing busybody who had no place as governess.
So she was basically a female version of Corzine? If all you have are fat jokes and name rips, your case is pretty weak. How has Corzine earned another term?

anyone who wants to elect a guy who wants to eliminate NJ property tax rebates (which is the only good thing that new jersey has to offer) deserves what they get, especially when new jersey has the highest property taxes in the country.

No, she was much worse.

Corzine is a jerk, but he's no doubt the lesser of two evils. What has Christie done to earn any term as governor? That he's not Corzine isn't enough of a reason to vote for him.

Are there any substantive criticisms of Corzine ? I see plenty of juvenile name-calling, but very little substantive criticism.

She reduced pension contributions for state employees, because the system was "overfunded".

Corzine did the opposite, so it was a positive step in the other direction. Christi is planning to go further and end defined benefit plans. That would be fantastic, if he could really pull it off.

I agree, and Corzine's detractors seem to have only name rips. As for the comment that the state pension fund lost money on Lehman, that's a problem with the way defined benefit plans are managed, it's not Corzine's fault.

First, no politician wants to eliminate tax rebates.

Second, there are ways that the state government could reduce property tax burden mostly by looking at town budgets, and considering implications of state policy on their operating costs. People who can be bought and sold with a handout like this are what is wrong with this state.

Criticisms? Um, where to begin.

First, as a Republican I did support Corzine for the simple reason that he was a successful CEO, and I thought he could come in and make some hard decisions. I very much believe in the "business model," especially for government. He failed miserably.

New Jersey was in very poor financial shape when Corzine took over, and it is now worse. The fact that we have been getting rebates is a snapshot of everything that is wrong here. We have no business getting anything while our debt continues to rise. Our state's deficit is now at $1.2 Billion dollars, and we're getting checks to keep us happy. Yes, I like them as much as the next guy, but we need to fix our state first.

We don't need cuts in state agencies, we need eliminations of agencies. Yes, it will hurt, but it has to happen.

Cozrine didn't want to make tough decisions, so this is where we are.

As far as I am concerned, bring in the next guy.

Yep - "Corslime" is aa good argument against Corzine, but Christie's poor health habits are not a good argument against Christie. It's the ol' Republican double-standard!

Christie Todd Whitman was elected by the NJ electorate because she chanted the age-old Republican mantra of cutting taxes (state). That state tax-cut is what made it necessary for county and township governments to raise and levy the property taxes that are the bain of all NJ property owners now.

Can't really blame the politicians all the time - the electorate with short memory have to take some responsibility for enjoying eight years of Whitman admin. and learn to live with the consequent, perpetual tax hike by the local governments.

I'm not following your reasons for NJ property tax hell. Christine Whitman has not been in office since 2001 when she left to go work for the EPA. So why do local governments in NJ continue to raise property taxes year after year long after she is gone?
