I am a recent college graduate who just accepted a job where my territory would be southeast NJ. I have never visited NJ unfortunately, but I am very interested in learning about it.

Without living in NJ, I do not know town reputations or good places to live. Some places I have noted are Brick, Lakewood, Neptune City, Barnegat, and Red Bank.

Like I said I am young fresh out of college looking for a safe place to live that would offer recreational activities, shopping, and other social outlets. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I would also be looking for an apartment to share with another person. We are looking for a 2 bedroom, 2 bath for around 1500. If you are from any of the locations previously mentioned and know of any good apartment complexes please let me know!

Thank you for your consideration! I greatly appreciate it!!

I lived in Brick for several years; it is close to everything, a very nice town. You could find a decent 2 bed/1-2 bath apartment or even condo to rent for that price. Find the Asbury Park Press newspaper online to look at ads.

is a great little town, esp. for a young person! I would recommend visiting to see for yourself. Loved going to riverfest there. Sorry I can't help with the other towns mentioned. Best to you.

Default Red Bank

I would also recommend Red Bank. There is a ton to do there especially for someone right out of college. You have entertainment, bars, shopping...close to the beach and an hour to the city. I don't think your price range would be a problem. What town is your job in? Knowing the town would make it easier for recommendations. Good luck on your move.

Thank you Christina0001 for the tip on looking in the Asbury Park Press newspaper!! I will do that!

Carat98 and Casey NJ, Thanks for your input on Red Bank, i keep hearing its a great place for young people so I am definitely going to check it out. By any chance do you know of any good apartment complexes??

My job requires a lot of travel, and since my territory is southeast, I can pretty much live anywhere in southeast NJ. The company said Lakewood.. but really I can choose anywhere. My friend and roommate has the northern territory so we are looking for somewhere in the middle.

There are no really bad towns in that area. But Lakewood might not be the best fit for you. Compared to the rest of the area, it's slightly run down, and there is an enormous hassidic (sp) Jewish population. They are very conservative. If you are Jewish that's probably great, but if not it might not be your cup of tea. The grocery stores have *huge* kosher sections, and it seems like everyone is dressed in black. To make things more unique, there is an all-girls Catholic university in Lakewood. It's not a bad town by any means, and the sales tax is only 3% which is nice, but I don't know if it's the ideal place for a young person looking for fun. It sounds like you'll have to travel, so stick near the Garden State Parkway. Sorry I also can't recommend any specific apartment complexes.

I agree with everyone on Red Bank. Since you are looking for some social activity, this will be a great place. They have the bars, restaurants, stores, and your right by the river.

What town are you being relocated to? I think Brick would be ideal. It depends. If your job is further south, Red Bank maybe a bit too far North. Although Barnegat is an up and coming town. But a lot of the houses are still older and such. And I am not sure. I had relatives that couldn't wait to get out of Barnegat, and yet I have friends who love it. Although I do not know if Barnegat has an apartment complexes?

Toms River is WAY over priced, so I wouldn't really recommend it. BUT Toms River has a lot to offer so if you went to Brick it maybe ideal because your close by. Red Bank is GREAT, but is that too far north is one of my concerns for you?

Red Bank is the only place for you to go in southeast NJ. Although, it is technically central NJ. Red Bank has the most going on for a young person like yourself, no doubt! My advice is to visit a few places on a weekend before you make a decision. If I had to make a pick outside of Red Bank, it would probably be along the lines of Bradley Beach, Long Branch or Atlantic Highlands, again depending on your territory.
