Hi,
We were looking recently at some homes on sale in the Birch Glen community, in Piscataway NJ, it's close to exit 8 on 287. Just had some questions if anyone lives there or knows that area. How is crime there? I read on another forum someone saying there have been break ins there, saying it might be students living in another complex cutting through birch glen, but not sure. Also one of the homes we saw, in the basement, the owner mentioned that all homes come with a machine to remove water when flooding occurs, now that surprised us, as obviously none of the others home owners mentioned it, plus all the homes we saw had furnished basements. So does anyone know if that area has flooding issues?
The location of the property is pretty convienent. I have done work in this complex and my clients tend to be happy there. I have not heard anything about real bad crime in the area. Just to make sure I was not crazy, I double checked on Google and could not find anything.
Lastly, as for the flooding issue; what you are referring to is a sump pump. These are featured in most new construction units. Sump pumps are installed in the house whether or not it is a flood area. It is just another feature that the builders tend to include.

I live in the area in question. There is no crime problem endemic to this area at all. There have been a rash of break-in's in the entire Middlesex/Somerset/Union county area and Birch Run Drive has not been immune. But there is absolutely no reason to fear for anyones safety. None at all. Children play outside alone in the evenings, the area is very ethnically diverse, mostly professionals, and very very safe.
As for flooding... the closer you are to Possumtown Road the more that will be an issue. The older communities, Canterbury and Maple Grove are actually built where there is much less of a flooding problem. Birch Glen was built much later for a reason, the land is less desirable from a flooding perspective. As a matter of fact, the new construction underway at 1 Possumtown lies within a flood zone (not Birch Glen, but adjacent to it).
Hi,
Since you live in that area, have you had bad flooding? Damaging your home or causing problems driving, just trying to get an idea of any damage that flooding might cause or driving issues to get to the train station or 287 in the morning/evening time if the road are also bad.
thanks.

Lived in Piscataway all my life. No major flooding issues. Yes, that is a sump pump...nice feature to have. Crime is not bad. I have 2 good friends that are Piscataway Police. Any condo/ towhhouse will have some sort of crime...mainly car break-ins. I have a friend that used to live in Birch Run. He loved it but needed a bigger home.
