Well, ok, you are right... and that is a shame....
I will change it to I do not mean to deny the valuable work teacher & police officer do, yet....
you're damn right, and why i don't even bother anymore. you can't even have a rational discussion. like everything these days, it's all hysteria and no substance.
The damned cops make too much money. Oh thats right, my brother po just had his face blown off and died and 4 other po's were shot at the same time. Tell that to his wife and the three kids under the age of 4. Maybe put some of the blame on the politicians that dole out the raises.

I am sorry, but I do hope this is not directed at me personally.....?

between teachers salaries and police and firefighter salaries this state and the people that live here will go broke! most people don't realize that some jobs just have a set value. teachers should not be making $60,000.00 with all of their benefits. police officers should not be making $110,000.00 plus benefits. this is ridiculous. at some point
What is getting lost here is those that currently know how to "game " the system continue to run unabated. Thos that are not on the public roles continue to leave the State. At some point, and that may be sooner than later, NJ will self destruct. There just are not enough paying taxpayers to support these continued increases.
Many smaller towns have eliminated their local police forces (like mine, Hainesport) and went with state police and seem quite happy with the savings and service.

While there is an inherent risk in police work, there are many professions that have significantly higher injury and mortality rates as law enforcement. I would bet a lot of money that more officers die in everyday traffic accidents commuting to and from work than in the line of duty.
There are plenty of jobs that include some risk of bodily injury, and people do them diligently while accepting a 401K and paying into their health benefit plan. While there is certainly a good amount of stress involved in police work in suburban New Jersey, there really isn't a big chance you'll ever be faced with a life-threatening injury. Your odds go up, obviously, in places like Newark, Camden, Trenton, Paterson, Irvington, Lakewood, etc. In Brick Twp., Toms River, West Caldwell, Princeton, Pt. Pleasant, Surf City, Linwood... name your 'burb here, not so much.
