Has anyone in NJ been successful in lowering their property tax recently?
I just bought a new home and I was wondering if it's worth trying to get my property tax lowered. I bought my home at the current market value through a realtor, but the property seems really high compared to my neighbor's. Anyway, I would really appreciate any advice.
it doesnt hurt to try, I am currenty in process as well. Ask your local twp for appeal forms and process adn when deadline is to be sent to whichever county you belong in mine is Camden County NJ and my deadline was April 1st so I sent my application, $25 chk for applcation processing along with comps my realtor listed for me (a must ) and to even one up myself I had the house reappraised and the complete report attached t form which in its self was over 25pages but hard for twp to dispute. If you are new homeowner than I am sure an appraisal was done on your house that you paid your loan officer, ask him/her for copy of appraisal report if you dont have one. Good Luck and always try!
We bought our house for 580 in 2010. It was valued at 725 earlier that year. We found out when they came to assess the house, they weren't allowed in, hence the high evaluation. Our lovely realtor, had the assessor come back and evaluated at a price similar to what we paid for it. Our taxes got lowered by $3000.
