Commute to NY from Long Valley,NJ
Hi Everyone,
What is a good way to get into New York from Long Valley?
I have been looking and so far there is a mount olive, Hacketstown train station? How are those run? Buses? Car pools?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
Grace

By car, it'll take two lifetimes to get to NYC in the morning and another lifetime to get home in the evening.

Citizen Chin has his or her finger on the pulse. Unless there is a damn good reason for being in Long Valley, you're best advised to look elsewhere.

I lived in Allamuchy (Exit 19 off Rt 80) for a while and commuted to Parsippany (Exit 42) M-F. I had to leave by 6am in order to get to work by 8-8:30. It was H-E-L-L. And this was to commute a grand total of 25 miles; just ridiculous.

I simply cannot believe that. At all.

Not sure if you're being sarcastic or not, but once you would get to Exit 26 (Mt. Olive), traffic slowed to a literal crawl, and did not relent until you passed Rockaway, and even then, it was still slow going.
On the way home, it wasn't as bad, usually took about 1hr 15mins.
The only exception to this was during summer months, when the commute time was nearly halved. So for two and half months during the year, you could enjoy a sigh of relief.

I lived in Independence (just off Route 80's exit 19) and I had to leave my house no later than 6:10 to make it to my office in Morris Twp. by 7:30. Of course, sometimes I would be late especially if there was an accident.
I rarely stuck with 80 all the way to 287, just too horrendous. Most days I had to bail out onto Route 10 or even earlier than that at Stanhope onto 206. I defintely don't miss it.
BTW, Long Valley is a very nice area.

If you live in western NJ, there are simply no good options for commuting east. A lot of folks move to west NJ/PA for the cheaper cost of living and the open space, but then end up paying in time lost to commuting.
If I were to move out to west NJ again, I'd make a tremendous effort towards finding a job out that way first.

You can drive to Lakeland bus terminal via Route 513 in Randolph/Dover area and hop on the bus at the bus terminal and park for free.
