captain

You intentionally make an implication that poor non-whites are asking for handouts( by your brilliant statement that poor whites are not asking for handouts) & in the process insults poor working class minorities.

Another poster calls you on it & reminds you that there are millions more white people who are on gov't welfare. You then find a way to somehow justify your earlier stupid ( racists) statement by adding another equally dumb declaration that states " you do realize that there are more whites than any other ethnic group" .
captain- I though the liberal CDolan was offensive, but you are even worse. You are displaying to one and all why the republican party is losing members across the country. I'm not sure if its a lack of intelligence, a shortage of educational attainment, maybe ignorance, or simply racism at its finest.

Yes Captain, I can fairly accurately respond to you that probably 98% of all americans know that there are more white people in america than any other ethnic group. You know what your racist statement & justification sounds like ?

Its like Asian immigrants saying to your face that we've only been in america in the last 15 to 20 years with very little english, but we are already much wealthier and more educated than 80% of white people who have been here for 4,5,6,7 generations of americans.

Your statement is like Jewish people proclaiming that we've only been in America for two or three generations but we are much more successfully financially than millions of ethnic Italians, Germans, Irish, Dutch, Polish who came here before us.

That's how your statement sounds! Why Captain? Did white people like you & your grandpa & great great grandmother work as slaves for about 400 years? Did your family tree face the socio-history experience that these black slaves go thru?
Captain- did 99% of adults in your family get denied access to vote & work in mainstream corporate jobs as recently as the 1960s?

If white did not have access to a college education, working for a company, or moving into nice towns with good public schools for many many generations until as recently as the 1960's & 1970's, do you think white families would have some wealth today?

Next time- Use your coconut. Think or zip it!

DocLau-

I hope you realize that this is one of many myths that are sold every single day by right wing groups to millions of working class american masses. This is exactly why the GOP has lost millions of college & post college educated voters. Its the deliberate propaganda of many issues that ONLY a " Joe the Plumber, " Steve the Roofer" would buy. Myths like:

Myth sold by rightwing to millions of joe the Plumbers: Democrats favor welfare because they want to support lazy black people. ( when in reality, there are millions more white people on welfare. Its Us vs. them Racial game)

Myth sold: The only people who vote democrats are the poor , minorities & the uneducated (
when in reality, in 4 of the last 5 presidential elections, voters with College degrees & voters with post college degrees voted democratic. in reality, democrats carry People making over $150K a year .

Myth sold: Democrats are anti-business, anti entrepreneur: ( in reality, the two most entrepreneurial ethic groups in America- Asian-Americans & Jewish americans are strong Democratic supporters. In Reality, 6 of the 10 wealthiest American billionaires , 13 of 20 of the wealthiest billionaires are democratic supporters led by Warren Buffett, Bill Gates of Microsoft, Steve Jobs of Apple, George Soros of Wall Street, Paul Allen, Yang of Yahoo, etc etc.

Myth sold by rightwing: Democrats promote wastefull, useless social programs for the lazy( In reality, Every Single national program that 150 million american adults of ALL colors, stripes, political colors, have used, benefitted, needed, such as MEDICARE, MEDICAID, UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE, SOCIAL SECURITY INCOME, FHA 1st time Buyer loans, FHA Refinance, Mortgage Due Sale Protection, Gi Bill College Loans, PLUS Student Loans, FDIC Bank Deposit Protection, Family Leave Act & SOON TO BE - Universal Healthcare are ALL DEMOCRATIC PROGRAMS that Hundreds of Millions of middle class, upper middle class, lower income, & even many affluent people have taken advantage of !!!! All these programs were REJECTED by Republicans. TODAY, 80 million seniors, republicans and democrats in ALL 50 states would NOT survive, would starve without many of these programs.

What can Republicans tell us???

You know whats tragic. For 80% of the working class Joe the plumbers out there, they have nothing to gain from the GOP agenda. They are middle class, lower income groups that Do Not benefit from Tax Cuts for the Wealthy, Capital Gains cuts, Estate Tax cuts- as you know, THESE ARE ALL Programs for the wealthy. Even a person making a $100 K does not benefit from this. While Dems always push for Middle Class Tax cuts. both Under Clinton & Obama.

Take out all the propaganda & its no comparison. Joe the plumber thinks he's wealthy, when he is not. Joe, NJ making $110K thinks he's affliuent, when he's not.

Its pure ignorance

i didnt say poor whites are not asking for handouts. i said working class whites are not looking for handouts. you see racist implications because you feel that pulling the race card would put me in my place. nothing i said was racist. monmouth county is a lot of middle and upper class white people. it doesnt have a large city where there would be more diversity.

monmouth county has a lot of towns in it that are generally filled with white middle and upper class people that work for a living and dont want handouts. they are more concerned with whats being taken from their paychecks.

so i directed my post towards appropriately towards the monmouth county voters that are supporting republicans.

next time use your coconut lauren.

Its the working class blue collar union member white males who vote Republican that is a mystery to me. Well I take that back. Its not really a mystery. Its more of a tragedy.

Its a simple example of how an undereducated group of people can be deceived year after year in voting against the economic interest of their blue collar family. If not for these Democratic party supported Unions, these fellows would be making $ 10 dollars an hour instead of $ 25 dollars an hour as a union member. If not for their Unions, which Republicans have been successfully chipping away year after year, they would be part of the millions of unemployed. They owe their job protection to their unions.

You think these high school educated manual blue collar workers would be driving expensive SUV's, live in nice suburban towns if not for the $25, $35 an hour union jobs.

Again, tell your kids to go to college ! Unfortunately I see many of these majority Italian kids from blue collar families decide to pass up on college & go straight to the workforce. Long term its a very bad career move in the 21st century.
Just what exactly is your problem? You insult blue-collar people, you insult Italians, you insult people you have only high school diplomas. What if they couldn't cafford college? You seem to have a problem with people who aren't as educated as you.

Personally, I like blue collar people. They're good characters who aren't full of themselves like some of these white collar jerks who make over 100k, drive a German car that looks nice but breaks down a lot, went to some state college, and they think they're all that.

One of my best experiences ever was working at a grocery store for 2 years. I saw and dealt with every type of person from every walk of life, and the type of people that you put down are good, honest, hard-working Americans. Not these crook bastards on Wall Street or the *******s who live in a rich NJ suburb and work some executive job in Downtown Manhattan. There's nothing wrong with what they, it's the attitude that they possess because of what they do, is what I have a problem with. That's exactly why I'm not a business major, even though business is interesting and a business degree can get you a good job and a lot of $$$. I don't want to associate myself with those types of people, I'd rather associate myself with the hard working people.

And that job I had was a union job, and I was a member of the union. I did not make a ridiculous $25 an hour, I only made $9. I went to some of the union meetings. I knew some of the union reps, they were nice guys. They weren't those corrupt union guys, they were just making sure that the worker's weren't getting screwed over, and that's exactly what they did. Even though I tend to lean to the right, I believe we need [non-corrupt] labor unions to check the power of employers, so that the working man doesn't get screwed over. It's about balance! Too much power on either side is bad!

Also, the damn liberals **** me off because they think they're smarter than the republicans... but they're not. I mean, everyone is entitled to their own opinions and I respect that, but this is America. I don't like it when the Democrat party is only a step away from socialism, because that's not America. America didn't become the greatest country in the world because of Roosevelt and the New Deal. We became powerful because millions of Americans were willing to work hard and together we made our victory in WWII possible. And the Republican party protects that pride. Americans are aggressive people with pride, not liberal ******* that are a step away from becoming France. If America went in that direction, we'd get trampled on!

Balance!

crdolan doesnt understand that socialism hurts us and that intelligent working class whites and non-whites can see this. one group of hispanics that tends to vote for republicans can see this, because they experienced it. thats the cubans.

While growing up and living in Ocean Township, I noticed that most of Monmouth County usually would support the Republican Party during every election season. From what I saw all around me- On every family's front yard, there would be Bush/Cheney signs in 2004, McCain/Palin signs last year, and Christie signs a couple of months ago.

Compared to the 'blue state' counties in North Jersey- What is it about Monmouth County that makes it such a GOP stronghold? Why are the residents of Monmouth County solidly Republican?

I've always wondered about that.

Just smarter, above average and better looking than the rest of the state!

Okay, I will play your game.

Again, I ask you.

You say that, "Working Class whites are not looking for handouts". So what you are implying is working class blacks are looking for handouts? Or working class Hispanics, Working Class Chinese & Working Class Filipinos are looking for handouts ?

See, this is my problem here. You keep representing the views of Republicans. But there is one problem. In your attempt to express your views, you allow your racist views to get out of the bag.

Why couldn't you say, "Working class people in monmouth county are not looking for handouts" ?????

You instead wanted to make very clear that "white" working class people are not looking for handouts. That's the problem right there. You somehow declared, decided, proclaimed that "other" working class people who are Not White are looking for handouts.

Is that clear enough english or do you want me to speak to you in French, Italian or Spanish ?

And yes captain, I use my coconut. I would not have finished med school if I did not use my coconut. And you? What have you finished in life ?

Former Gov. Christine Whitman would not have awarded me 15 years ago as one of the 25 Most Promising Republican Women Business Owners of NJ if I did not use my coconut.

My husband & I would not be able to send our children to $25,000 a year private high schools if we did not use our coconuts.

So to respond to your statement- Don't sweat it. This republican uses her coconuts.

I'm moving on from here. But I wanted to call you out directly. I'd respect you more if you stand by your " blacks are lazy" insinuations" rather than pretending that it was an innocent statement.

This is New Jersey. Not the deep south. Most Jersey republicans here do not share your view.

What defines "working class" anyway? Unless you're a multi-millionaire who can somehow guarantee that no matter what, they will absolutely never have to work another day in their entire life, don't you have to work?

Informative post.

Nothing against you, i know it's a popular term in Texas, but "anglo" as a euphemism for "white people" infuriates me. I'm not even a little bit English. In fact, a lot of (if not most) people in this country of european descent came from a place where english was NOT spoken.

this is way off topic but I don't understand the disconnect sometimes. One of my less articulate neighbors was talking to me one day as a Mexican woman walked past with her two young kids. Her origins were obviously (to me) Native American.

My neighbor said, "how come sometimes I see a mexican dude and I think he's Italian until I hear him speaking spanish and then sometimes I see some mexican chick and I think she's Cambodian."

To which I said, "maybe b/c the 'mexican' dude is actually puerto rican and might have grandparents who spoke italian or german and maybe b/c the mexican chick is from some small indian village in the jungle and her grandparents probably spoke some mayan language. I'm white. You're not. We're both speaking the same language and we're both American, right?"

Point is, speaking english doesn't put you in an ethnic category. Same goes for speaking spanish.

solibs- Not sure if you ever been to the Lone Star state.

I lived in Dallas area for 2 years in the 90's. Also regularly travelled to Houston area.

"Anglos" is the term used by pretty much everybody in Texas. They even use that term on TV nightly news broadcast when referring to a story that involves whites or the white race.

Even during election results on TV. The news anchor would use Anglos to refer how White people voted. And Latinos for Hispanics.

While here in NJ, we obviously use 'white" or "caucasian".

Same with the word " Latinos". When you go around Texas, the most common phrase used was " "Latinos" or " Tejanos". Never did I hear " Hispanics".

In NJ, we commonly use "Hispanics" .

It may not be grammatically accurate, but it seems to be a local thing.
