Im going to be starting a job at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch. Im a single, 27 year-old guy who enjoys a decent nightlife. Where do you recommend I look for housing so that I might be able to walk or have a short drive to nightlife and not have to worry about too long a commute to work (<1 hr)? Please dont say "Youre out of luck." Im hoping for the best possible.

The first place I think of when asked about night life for twenty somethings in Monmouth County is Red Bank. They have avenues, shops, bars, festivals, and its on the river.
Oh yes I definitely echo Red Bank. I mean it's no Hoboken for nightlife, but this is Monmouth County. Plenty of restaurants and bars with live music, some quieter lounges and coffee shops, and the entire downtown area is smallish but nice to walk around.
Also not too far from say Asbury Park (Stone Pony), the shore clubs, or the PNC Bank Arts Center if you wanted to catch a concert or something. And the town as a whole does like to hold events, including one of the better known "First Night" New Years festivals.
I agree, Red Bank is the best choice. If you live close to the NJT rail station, it's two stops on the southbound train to Long Branch, about 15 minutes. And Red Bank is a great town, though as Amarsir noted, it's no Hoboken when it comes to night life. But I think it's by far the best choice in Monmouth Co. Long Branch itself has some decent areas near West End (and there's always Elberon, but that's expensive) and a funky art scence (Shore Institute of Contemporary Art is downtown) but it's a bit rough and gritty. Asbury Park has made a great comeback but it's mostly overpriced new condos, houses and really bad apartments in really bad sections of town.
Go w/ Red Bank
