Are they in High Rolls, Bent Cloudcroft and places over 6000 ft? Are they in Alamogordo or do they all live in East Texas?

I don't know if they have an altitude limit. If you have stagnant water, you can have mosquitoes. We have them here in Rio Rancho near the Rio Grande at 5,200 feet.

I remember reading about this last summer, we get mosquitoes in New Mexico:

Mosquitoes invade southeastern NM town

And a thread: Mosquitoes?

The worst swarm of mosquitoes I've seen in New Mexico was on a hike above 8000 feet in a swampy area not far from the Brazos Cliffs near Chama. As Poncho indicated...it's really about the water situation, not elevation.

My worst mosquito experiences are in the marshy meadows of the San Pedro parks above 10,000ft. Murderous buggers up there.

After that, the valley in Albuquerque at around 4,900ft.

One of the last times I went fishing in Clayton before I moved I had the whole area smoked out and they where still pretty bad. Probably the worst fishing experience of my life, about two years ago.

I hate mosquitoes and I've never seen them bad around Ruidoso. Usually none even on summer evenings.

They live in Edgewood (namely the school) which is almost 7000ft. Little buggers ate up my legs and I had itchy welts for a week or two.

I hath grown a fear of this place for my arch enemy, the mosquito, hides among the blades of grass, waiting for me...

I stay at Corkins near the Brazos Cliffs every year and some years we have them and some years we do not. That is at least 8000 plus feet. They (mosquitos) do not seem as bad as here on my ranch in Eastern OK. Of course I have streams and ponds not too mention lots of animals. Not only do I have those nasty bugs but chiggers are horrible. Don't think they have chiggers in high alitude. Does anyone know that?

I've never heard of chiggers anywhere in NM, altitude seeming to have nothing to do with it. And it's always surprised me that there seems to be no tick problem in my forested area in spite of the 'infestations' of deer, elk and other wildlife.
