Davya, you still with us? Been off the board for a few days. Wanted to finish up my own take on the other sizable cities in Southern NM. Roswell and Carlsbad are in the southeast corner of the state. Roswell's population is around 45,000 and Carlsbad maybe 30,000. I have a friend in Hagerman, south of Roswell. gonna visit with him next month. Bottomless Lakes State Park is east of Roswell, one of the better parks in the state, IMO. It would be wise to search out the other threads regarding the two. Some are critical of the crime (understandable), others about the political good ol' boy network stuff, others on not enough good paying jobs. Understandable; but the same can be said of no opportunities in towns in Colorado so the kids move to the Denver area for jobs. BTW, I know your area real well. I worked out at the Fort St. Vrain Plant -started out there in early "70. Area has changed, huh?! Back to SE New Mexico; the temperature gets toasty in the summer. Starts hitting 100 deg. in June (sometimes May). Air conditioning is a must. An example of reasonable pricing on motels in Carlsbad; Motel 6 right now is $27 a night. That's reasonable. Don't know how long the DDT problem will affect Brantley. One thing about Carlsbad; the second best National Park in the US of A is 30 miles SE; Carlsbad Caverns is a must see. Will post a little more on this tomorrow.

A quick note on Clovis. Nice area, population is close to 40,000. They have a half dozen or so lakes in town and the surrounding area, Curry County. It is home to Cannon Air Force Base. Real estate is comparable to Roswell and Carlsbad. IMO, housing in the area is basically half the price of where you are at. I could be mistaken, though. Property taxes are cheaper as well. Closest bigger metro areas would be Lubbock and Amarillo; both are 90 miles or so away.

According to the New Mexico Game and Fish weekly report, they are saying that elevated levels of DDT have been found in several fish, so for now the policy looks like catch and release. The last updated report is for the 18th.

If that's the criteria for then why doesn't the OP move to Michigan as they the Great Lakes or maybe they should move to Kansas because of Milford Lake etc.
Sorry, to everyone in the Land of Enchantment about the East Texas post. I read the previous post about Toledo Bend and just jumped in to second it. I'm sure there is some great bass fishing in New Mexico. Hope you find your ideal spot.

I think most of us have done it at one time or another unintentionally. I've done it myself. It happens when you come across a subject that you have a great passion for.

6 FOOT 3: Well, I'm a Texan (for now), and I'm interested in the Billy the Kid subject. He's allegedly buried in Hico, TX, but no one really knows. You didn't offend me. I think it's a fascinating topic.

I'm glad i didn't offend ya....lol....

Well we know for sure 100% where his mother Catherine McCarthy is buried at and that's at Silver City and there's no opposition to digging up her grave for an DNA sample as i beleive there are no known relatives to oppose as he had no other brothers or sisters or children and no one knows who his real father was and his fathers relatives as his mom and dad came over from Ireland and settled in NYC where Billy was born.

But the city and people of Ft.Sumner are definately opposed and the City Council where Brushey Bill (billy the kid II) is buried in Hico TX are debating about getting his DNA to see if it matches catherine's so it's all interesting.

Just so not off topic Ft.Sumner has a very nice fishing lake in Sumner Reservoir.
