When I was young, I had a good friend who had a Lambretta scooter (similar to a Vespa), and we had a ton of fun on the thing. Lambretta went out of business a long time ago (1971), but Vespa is going strong. They have 4-cycle engines now (no gas & oil mixing) and have automatic transmissions, unlike the old ones with 4-speed manual shifting, so they're very easy to ride and keep up. With gas prices what they are, I expect Vespa to have a bright future.
People will tell you differently. Just depends what turns you on. I started on a 150cc scooter and it was suffecent but quickly went to a 450cc and then a 750cc also.
I have an 1100cc V-4 motorcycle, so I'm spoiled. The only thing wrong with it is that it only gets 38-47 mpg, depending on how it's ridden [cough].
BrianH, your 450 & 750 are the motorcycles in the photos, right? I know Suzuki makes a 650cc scooter that will do about 110 mph!
CindyBQuilts: That depends on which model you're talking about. Honda makes a 500cc scooter (the SilverWing) that is faster than any Vespa.
