Default San Ysidro Movie Making

Someone was filming on Hwy 550 at San Ysidro this morning. Black helicopter with a camera pod on the nose, lots of police cars with "Nevada State...." on the doors, racing up and down and holding up those of us who had someplace to go.

To Hollywood and the film makers and actors and extras and all:

Welcome to New Mexico, and stay out of our way.

We were outside of Santa Fe on 550 a couple of weeks ago on vacation and we saw a bunch of police cars and trailers out in a field. I don't know my cities/towns/etc. that well so it could have been near the same location where you saw them. We also saw a bunch of signs at that loaction and around town that said 'Kites'. Is this possibly the "Kites" movie being filmed?

Somebody is confused, certainly me. Are we talking about San Ysidro in Sandoval County?

Yes, the San Ysidro that is northwest of Bernalillo on US Hwy 550 (which until a few years ago was Highway 44), right at the "Y" where you can head up into the Jemez. (And to confuse the newbies even further, the town of Bernalillo is not in Bernalillo County. It's in Sandoval County.)

There is a North San Ysidro and a South San Ysidro east of Santa Fe in San Miguel County, and yet another San Ysidro down in Dona Ana County.

Anyone remember that Saturday Live Night skit featuring "...my brother Darrel and my other brother Darrel..."? San Ysidros are kind of like that I guess.

They were filming the tv show "Crash" last weekend, so it's probably still them filming. If you get used to seeing the "film" signs (letters, numbers, sometimes the actual name, with an arrow) you can spot people filming around NM quite often.
