Here in Illinois we have 8 classes of schools for football. Of course the schools in class 8 are all from the Chicago area. Downstate are the smaller schools.

Southern New Mexico high school football is closely related to West Texas football. It's pretty much a friggin religion. Nothin sadder than Friday Night Lights in that part of the country. Stands full of 45-yr-old has-beens still hanging on to their past glories. Ugh.
For a bit of insight I suggest the books Friday Night Lights by H.G. Bissinger and The Last Picture Show by McMurtry.
That 4A looked like a track meet score. 49 to 44? YIKES!
Props to the winners, I LOVE high school football!
Wazzzzup Double H....Yeap i hear ya as i despise pro sports anymore and even college sports hardly interest me as it's all about money and not the love of sport.
Football was NOT a big deal in Las Cruces during the 70's or 80's. It just wasn't.
sjbasin, no offense (well at least not any more than you intended) but were you a nerd? People like to support the kids here. No one who's 45 ever had any grid iron glory in southern NM (eastern is another story). I didn't play but did attend Cruces High and many of my has been friends did play. Fact is, however, their relived glory was more likely to be Saturday night than Friday :O. Even with the winning, it still nothing like the rabid friday night lights business here in Cruces, that's all east of the Guadalupes/Sacramentos. As for 5A it was allll Alb back in the day and though they were good and typically won, they weren't all that rabid either.
