Is this not the place they are talking about??? I left Holloman in 2004 and I swore it was still open, but am probably wrong.
I think generally this is the place they are talking about. I could very well be wrong on the year. I know there was funding for the closing down but it did not happen on one day, I know animals were sent to various locations. But this is a series of events which I guess began in the 60's with various labs and/or missions etc.
6/3, I was wondering why I haven't heard anything about it but if it's closed, maybe the monkeys are in Fla. now. Hope so.
sjbasin- LOL
Tia, thanks for the link. I'll check it out later.
I appreciate everyones input on this. Thanks.
Yes, it is closed. Was located on Holloman Air Force Base and was used for medical and space research. Don't worry about it, all is well. Worry more about your shelters that kill animals and you local animal breeders that are irresponsible.
Thanks caydriver.
It does concern me about the shelters that kill animals and the people that just don't care.
I can ask how people can be so cruel but that's a stupid question and I won't start on that.
I'm hoping that these chimps made it to Fla. and they're happy. That's what counts.
I also wish that more people thought like I did about being cruel to animals and to stop using them in labs, circuses or whatever. They have a life and they deserve to have a good one.
songinthewind7: I suppose some animal testing is necessary, but I'm sure it's done way too much, with little concern for the animals. And what would a circus be without any animals? The people who use animals, for whatever reason, need to be supervised closely. That's an absolute necessity.
I have always felt terrible about Laika, the dog who was shot into space early on by the USSR. That happened when I was about eleven years old, so it made a lasting impression on me.
I don't see how anyone can stand to work in an animal shelter and have the duty of euthanizing the unwanted animals. I wouldn't be able to take that at all.
You will probably get more as we are kicking a bunch out of Washington DC. Chief chimp will be going back to Texas so i suppose NM will have some relief.
Catman,
The reason I mentioned circuses was because this one particular show I saw about the chimps said that the chimps used in the circus had teeth pulled out so they wouldn't bite anybody.
I understand now. I consider that animal abuse of the first order.
