Like the title says, I'll be coming in town for my girlfriends birthday next week and I would like to make it special for her. Does anyone have any ideas of some fun or romantic things we can do. I'm not looking to spend tons of money, and she cherishes moments more than expensive things anyway. (Trust me, she still likes expensive things though, lol). We are both in our late twenties, enjoy drinking and all kinds of nightlife, and are both photographers at heart (so picturesque scenery is always a plus). Thanks ahead of time for any advice y'all can give me.

I would like to go on a Natchez jazz brunch cruise with my s/o.
You could also take a French Quarter horse carriage ride and have lunch/
dinner in the Quarters.

Don't waste your money on the food if you do decide on the Natchez, it's terrible and there's nothing "New Orleans" about it. The ride down the Mississippi is pretty nice, but I wouldn't consider it romantic unless there's something special going on like a band playing on a nighttime cruise. Jazz brunch is okay, but it's usually full of ill behaved children and elderly. There are much better jazz brunches in the area: Arnaud's and Commander's Palace are the 2 that pop out in my mind.

I'll say this: before I lived here and was just visiting, had my husband taken me on the Natchez for romance, I would've been very disappointed and made him take me to an expensive restaurant to pay for it . BTW, we're in our very early 30's.

Here was a romantic day my husband planned for me back in April (just for a few ideas - this is all in the French Quarter):
  • Morning mimosas/bloody marys at Cafe Maspero/lunch at Chartres House Cafe
  • Dropped me off at Spa Aria (at Hotel Monteleone) for a massage and mani/pedi.
  • He went to the Cigar Factory on Decatur St then chilled at Chartres House Cafe.
  • Grabbed a carriage and had them pick me up at the spa for a short ride (we live here, so we didn't need the narrated tour).
  • Pre-dinner drinks at Carousel Bar then dinner at Galatoire's
  • After dinner, just go crazy!
