hi, i'm planning on moving to New Orleans from Florida and need to rent an apartment that's close to the Tulane Hospital & Clinic. Anyone have any suggestions on good neighborhoods/apartment complexes to live in? I just need either a studio or one bedroom. My biggest concern is safety and security and I'll most likely have a car so parking is also important too. Thanks!

I'd recommend somewhere in the Warehouse District or the Saulet Apartments (its gated with a parking garage)...right around Tulane Medical Center is still a little dicey

I have lived in New Orleans for 67 years and downtown is just not safe in any sense of the word,it is a ghost town at night except for the warehouse district young single bars. Try to stay on the Uptown side of Canal Street.

The warehouse district is the absolute safest area close to downtown. The only place safer is Uptown around Audubon Park. The area feels safe and the crime stats back it up. However, you will have to pay for parking. That will be at least $125 a month.

Two other good options would be Mid-City between Carrollton and City-Park Ave. and Broadmoor between Napolean and Nashville. These areas are close in terms of safety and are very easy commutes being less than 2 miles from Tulane Medical Center.

I work at the med school and walk 5 blocks to work. There are a few places close by that ARE safe and relatively cheap. 925 Common, Gravier Place, 200 Carondelet, the Maritime, and the Saratoga is opening soon. I have done this for 3 years and have never had the slightest problem.
