Well the simple truth is that the Knicks are horrible and tickets are grossly overpriced. They're the kind of team you show up to watch if *your* team is in town on a road trip.

Given that, I'm not sure why he would have even seriously considered New York if championships were his main priority (even more so than money...he's already filthy rich). With Miami he's looking at championship contention immediately with Dwayne Wade and supporting cast already a strong playoff team in their own right. A Miami/LA finals match up is almost a given now with 2 of the top 3 players in the league stacked on the same team.

New York might be a marquis city, but the New York Knicks certainly are not a top-class NBA organization. Look 200 miles to the northeast in Boston if you want to see one of the two most storied, prolific franchises in the NBA. That's what it's all about.

Also, I hate to break it, but the Miami Heat has at least had some success in recent years and the city and surroundings of Miami are probably more attractive to the megastars (and ordinary players) than NYC. Warm winters, tropical landscapes, beaches, warm waters, nightlife etc are better than toll bridges, brick buildings and ice cold winters (during which a considerable portion of the NBA season is played). There are plenty of reasons why the teams in Los Angeles and Miami continue to attract the superstars as opposed to NYC.

Believe me, if you are a basketball fan in NYC, there is no way you would not want a top-notch contending NBA team in your city. Saying otherwise is just sour grapes .....

Default no interlopers need here

Handball is the NYC sport anyway. The best players in the world are homegrown right here. People like Joe Durso or Rookie Wright. We don't need some interloper from out of town that has nothing to do with us, and is only here for the money to represent us.

If I were LeBron I would have gone to Miami too, he needs championships. Let's face it...at this moment the Knicks suck.

With that said, in regards to Miami; you left out through the roof poverty, high crime, oppressively hot weather, hurricanes, high illiteracy, and dealing with what seems like 90% of a city that doesn't speak English, depressed real-estate market (they are basically giving condos away in Miami away for free, because nobody wants to buy them...or wants to live in Miami besides Cubans....speaks for the "desirability" of Miami ),. Miami's luxury real estate market is distressed beyond words. You could buy 5 luxury condos in Miami for the price of one ghetto apartment in Chelsea, because let's face it..people with $$ would take NYC and continually choose to do so. Supply and demand, Eco 101.

Miami is a poor third-world city and I'm not exactly sure of the superstars in Miami you've eluded to that the city allegedly attracts (other than LeBron James) The only superstars who who live in Miami that I can think of are has-beens like Gloria Estefan and Ricky Martin (who recently decamped to NYC and now lives in SoHo, lol). So currently Estefan and Enrique Iglesias (and LeBron James) are the only superstars residing in Miami. LOL. we could name superstars who reside in NYC and it would flood this entire page.

Maybe you're alluding to NBA superstars (can't dispute that because I don't pay much attention to the NBA) certainly not baseball or football, but then again, NBA players who all seem to hail from the ghetto, aren't exactly known for their taste so I'm not sure it is anything to boast about.

NYC attracts more elites than Miami and Los Angeles combined. Global Elites that make LeBron James look broke. Even Bill Gates other home is in Manhattan. And NYC nightlife is superior to that of Miami, so not sure why you alluded to Miami having better nightlife than NYC. And the restaurants are incomparable. The two cities are woefully incomparable, really.

Then how would we explain the New York Yankees vs the Miami Marlins vs Los Angeles Dodgers?

Or the New York Giants vs Miami Dolphins vs the Los Angeles nobodies?

You do know there are other sports than the NBA? In fact, the NBA is the least watched of the three sports...and for a reason. NYC has more sports stars (and regular players) than the other two cities of were include other more popular sports.

Yes but keep in mind that the filthy rich live like lords in all of the "poor third world cities" all over the world - not that Miami is third world. I was talking about the Miami Heat superstars. Ever heard of Shaq, Alonzo Mourning, Gary Payton and the 2006 World Champion Miami Heat? Coached by Pat Riley who decided to be in Miami after his stint in NY?

OK fine, if we want to talk about all of your NYC hotshots - I would be willing to bet they maintain residences in places like greater Miami or L.A. and spend considerable time in those places. Why would that be?

I was talking about the NBA teams specifically. My point is that the superstars are not going to play for the Knicks (or Nets - that would be worse, playing in NJ or Brooklyn or wherever they end up) solely to be in the NY Metro area. There has to be a winning tradition and first-rate organization in place.

In the MLB, the Yankees have a long-standing winning tradition which will continuously attract players.

In the NFL, the Miami Dolphins have always had an easier time attracting top flight free agents who want to play in a locale with warm weather year round. Many of these NFL players and some coaches maintain residences in Florida and not in NY/NJ. The Giants have some championships due to good drafting and coaching over the years, but that is no different than how the Pittsburgh Steelers have been doing it (to a greater degree I must add).

Who cares about Shaq, Alonzo Mourning and Gary Payton?

There is no evidence than any more than a handful of New York celebrities own homes in Miami. Hollywood on the other hand, yes, many of them own or rent places there, because as we know, the film industry is based in Los Angeles.

No, I don't think so. NY holds the the title for that stat, given the gender demographics in the city.
