Default Medicaid Managed Care - need info!

Hi - I am heading to the Medicaid office tomorrow to apply for health insurance. I was told that I will have to select a managed care program on the spot. My primary care physican accepts the following: Affinity, AmeriChoice, Health First, and Health Plus.

Does anyone have an opinion on any of these plans? I googled them in hopes of finding reviews and no luck. I am leaning towards either Affinity or AmeriChoice (which is part of United Healthcare) but not sure. I heard that Health First is not accepted widely by many doctors and hospitals so that nixed them out of my choices.

Any info anyone can offer is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Marcy

Default Same question

I'm in the same boat as the OP. I'm trying to pick a new Medicaid Managed Care Plan. I'm currently enrolled in Fidelis Care aka New York State Catholic Health Plan. I too am leaning towards UnitedHealthcare Community Plan (formerly Americhoice) and Affinity Health Plan. Any advice on which to pick would be greatly appreciated.

Another option is Wellcare.

My only issue with Wellcare is that it's one of the poorest performing managed care plans for 2012. I went to the NYS DoH website and they have a chart with the performance of each plan for the past year. They also break it down by category of care. 2012 Plan Performance - Medicaid Managed Care in New York City This is the website. Based on that data, I narrowed my choices to the ones I mentioned.
