If you are looking for a little bit something dfferent to do on a nice summer afternoon, I would recommend either take a drive or the A-Train to Broad Channel and head over to Sunset Marina on West 10th Road.

They are right on Jamaica Bay, and rent kayaks by the hour. The proximity to the Jamaica Bay Wild Life Refuge and being across the bay from Brooklyn & Manhatten offer some nice views of the city skyline, as well as next to the Rockaways & Marine Park bridge, offers something a bit different. You can also take a trip out to the secluded beach island in the middle of the bay, that the locals call "The Sandbar" and sit back and enjoy the views of the wildlife and boats on the bay (just ignore the empty beer cans some people are too lazy to take with them)

The staff is freindly & knowledgable about the area and the bay.

Also make sure to stop in at some of the local places for a bite to eat. There is a great bagle store and a resteraunt right on the bay next to the bridge going to rockaway, it's hidden away next to the walking/bike path to the bridge.

Just a day trip recommedation for some locals looking for a change.

Renting a Kayak here is fun. They have some great views of the city. Wish I had a waterproof camera to take pictures of all the birds
