Hi everyone,

I'm thinking to move in Red Hook because I thought it's convenient to commute to manhattan...but people say the area is dangerous though it's getting better.
So my question is (1) how dangerous the area is, (2)the projects that I may wanna avoid, (3) what kind of crime is most common in the area, and (4) Pros to moving in Red Hook if you can come up with.

BTW, I'm a 20 year-old female student and I have lived in East Harlem (110th st), Prospect Park (B&Q), and Bay Ridge before.
If possible, I would like to know how dangerous/different the area is compared to either East Harlem or Prospect park.

I would appreciate any information from you.
Thank you for your time

Compared to East Harlem, Red Hook is a paradise, lol. Other than the Red Hook projects it's really not that bad. Best part is you will have Ikea right in your own backyard. You can't beat Red Hook's waterfront views.

There nothing wrong with Red Hook. It's actually nice near Carroll Gardens, just avoid the projects.

I ride my bike thru Red Hook all the time, it is fun. There are no trains though. It is a little desolate in certain areas, but none the less there are people around. I have never felt unsafe, even riding down completely desolate blocks, or near the pj's.

There are great water views and Ikea park is really really great, fairway is there. You are close to Carroll gardens and DUMBO, Brooklyn Bridge park......Columbia HTs waterpark....

I think Red Hook is pretty safe, especially compared to parts of East Harlem, but I have never thought of it as convenient to anything except IKEA ,unless you have a car.

In my opinion Red hook is very well gentrified/yuppified how ever you want to call it so you would be fine from a safety standpoint. Transportation would be annoying though since there are no trains in that area.

You can't beat being right on the waterfront and having a great retail/entertainment district within walking or biking distance. Transportation is a bit spotty and I found some areas lonely but just use your good sense and you should be fine. On my visits to the area, the projects seemed unusually peaceful. Not sure if that's the norm, though.
