Man he really has to be going back then... I've lived in this area for going on 20 years now and I never remember Forest ave being an avenue with a restaurant scene... There were a couple more locations near Metropolitan by Harman before they tore down the deli but in terms of restaurants I don't ever remember it having a strong scene like that... Fresh Pond definitely but not so much Forest...
He's probably going back to the '50s, '60s and maybe '70s. Said it was a hang out spot for doctors from Wyckoff Heights hospital. Don't take my word for it, he could easily have it confused with some other street as its been some time for him.
Ridgewood is a cool hood, it has so many stores. I think if I lived on Fresh Pond I'd gain hundred pounds in a week. The transportation is great too. Forest Avenue gets mad creepy at night tho. I was walking down Forest at around two in the morning, and there was not a single soul to be seen on the street!
I would be more nervous and on guard if I see another person walking with me two in the morning. I'm
more content just walking by myself late at night. If no one is around, then no one is going to hurt you.
I'm not a big fan of the foods from Fresh pond road, but I used to go there all the time because there is
a store call Sports plus that sells hockey equipments, and you can ask them to do custom made jerseys
for you with your name and numbers.
I could see that section having that type of scene as well... Although from as far back as I can remember other than Comp-u-stop, the majority of those places have been there for some time... Demographics definitely changed though... That specific block used to have a significant PR pop. especially in those apartments on top of the businesses... A lot of then moved down to Florida though and they were replaced by either Ecuadorians, Albanians or Polish folk...
My uncle used to live in those apartments towards the middle back in the earlier 1990's. It's not a bad area, but also brings bad memories since something also happened to him in those same apartments.
Since then, I rarely stepped foot in that zone today, only until when I had a friend who lived near those apartments in the earlier 2000's.
How's that area today ?
