Brazil is a weird place. The whites are still the ruling race and they **** on the Favelas and darker skinned people all the time, if you think the NYPD's relationship with minorities is bad just watch Rio's news for a week. Oddy those same white brazilians have no problem with taking credit for a Brazilian culture which was created in those same Favelas by the same people of african descent who they regard as animals.

Not all "white" brazilians are like this of course and I think the south american countries are now acknowledging and exploring their African and Native heritage more.

And each African varies in looks. You cannot look at a person and say that they are or aren't African or AA or some other Black (Caribbean, Latin) by looking at them. Again these are ignorant stereotypes.

When they were married her family completely disowned her for marrying a poor dark skinned man instead of a white man with more opportunity.

As a kid when I visited family back in my parents home country/island (My father is from PR) everyone would always talk about how white I am and how great it was but back home in Brooklyn living in a Hispanic & Black neighborhood being so white was never something positive. Once I told the black kids I was actually Latino they would stop with the white boy jokes and treat me more equal.

It's crazy to see how the whole "whiter is better" mentality spread all over the world, even in asian countries whiter is considered better. The Japanese and Chinese follow it and just look at all the top Bollywood stars and all you see is fair skin and light eyes.
Considering the state of the "Black" community in Brooklyn, gaining it's respect is really nothing one would need concern one's self with. Many of it's disproportionately poor population are being displaced.

Agreed. Various activists and movements have put the issue out in the spotlight in South America, so now people are much more likely to acknowledge African and/or Native heritage.

Not that I'm disputing your test results, but what company did you have your DNA tested by? When I used DNA by Ancestry (a ripoff if you ask me as their sample size smaller than other companies and they don't give enough of a varied breakdown), they estimated that I was 27% white and 73% sub-saharan african. This was weird to me, even knowing that African Americans, on average, have been found to be between 15-20% European heritage due largely to the rape that took place on the slave plantations. With 27%, however, that suggested to me that I'd have a more recent European ancestor. Yet, I could not locate any before the mid-late 1800s. Distrustful, I took Ancestry.com's DNA test (I mistakenly thought that DNA by Ancestry WAS Ancestry.com's test when I first took it), and they estimate that I'm 6% European, 2% Asian, and 92% sub-saharan african (my mother doubles my European and Asian results, which, given my parents' makeup, doesn't surprise me). Given Ancestry.com's more extensive database and genealogy/DNA tools, and knowing my family history, I tend to trust Ancestry's test results much more.

Do you really think that 1% of the population of most nations have disproportionate dominance because they act as individuals. No they pool their resources, and if you want to fight against that then you need to pool yours!

Why do you think that there is so much emphasis on networking in the business world. I can assure that people who are part of powerful social networks will always out perform the long ranger thinking that he can do it on his own. They will get better jobs, generate more business, more likely to be promoted and will earn more.

Guyana is weird. It's is geographically and even at times political due to historically being leftist, socialist and Marxist dictatorship Latin American, but culturally it is Anglo phone Caribbean. Yes at times in media their is references to Guyana being associated as Latin America. Technically Guyana and Guyanese people are not really West Indians and only west Indian by association. To be honest Guyana is nothing more than a West Indian colony on the shoulder of the of the South American Amazonia rain forest, far from the Caribbean named after native Indians land of many waters but mostly populated by Asian Indians. It's a weird place. I knew of an afro Guyanese woman. She is real hot too, she referred herself as South American and not West Indian. Some Guyanese I know say they are both. Me i choose South America.

I was simply explaining the simple fact of why and how Haitians are Latin Americans. Napoleon is very relevant as Haiti is Francophone nation.

And the majority of Haitian Creole is French based lexicons and French lexified. It's really not as African as you make it out to be lol. Study linguistics and you'll figure it out.

And yes MOST Haitians can speak or understand French especially since it's used and taught in schools and in government.

And many Haitians can relate to other Latinos and have even lived among them as well. It's all about intersecting identities and paridigms.
I don't get it.

Are people from Guadeloupe and Martinique Latin Americans as well?

Latino has been used to mean those from the Americas who speak Spanish.
