I had a valid claim on file as of Nov. 2009 in March 2010 I started working again but only every other week. I did not realize until now that I was allowed to claim on the weeks I was not working. Now I am trying to fight for the back pay that I had a right to recieve during those weeks.
What would be a valid argument as to why I did not claim during those months so that I can get the money owed which is around $5000.00.?
I realize saying I did not know will not work, one suggested I say my phone and interent was not working for those 6 months, but being I started claiming again in Oct. 2010 it also leaves question as to why I did not bring this issue up in Oct. 2010 and now it is Jan. 2011 and I am asking for the back pay.
I don't think you can get money retroactively but you might be able to start getting unemployment benefits now. As already stated you need to call up the Dept. of Labor Unemployment Benefits Dept. and speak to them yourself.
be prepared to tell your story and be flatly denied. UI reps are notoriously unsympathetic. I have never heard of reto UI - but hey, give it a try and let us know what happens!
