I lived on 187 & Bennett - It was right by the Yeshiva - very nice, quiet, and clean. Yeshiva has its own street patrol that sweeps past that huge park on the way to the A train, I loved it. - I hear anything WEST of Broadway is the way to go - Broadway and East turns into a zoo

"Safe" is a subjective term--if you don't feel safe, then no neighborhood is any good. The more upscale, shall we say, part of Washington Heights is located west of Broadway. If I wasn't ensconced in Brooklyn, I happen to like both Bennett and Fort Washington Avenues.

To the OP: Also consider the part of Washington Heights on Riverside Drive, 155th to 159th streets. Very serene neighborhood with many coops and condos, some of which are always on the market for rentals.

Avoid the East of Washington Heights. 175 to 193 West of Broadway is a good spot. Broadway, benette, overlook terrance, ft washington, pinehurst, haven, cabrini.

Most of these places WERE good. This place was safe up until a few years ago but there is nothing up here. Most of my family is slowly moving out due to random muggings on FT Wash and 187 as well as attacks, your not safer west of broadway or east of broadway because there is not huge fence that seperates the two-so its basically the same thing. if you want to move to a place that has LOTS of laundermats and hair places then you found your heaven! if not You better off in Bklyn-like in Willi -burg. ...be safe...
