Living Options for New School graduate student
I may attend The New School in September for graduate study, and would like some advice on finding a place. My monthly budget for living expenses will be $2100. I have already calculated the following:
MetroCard, occasional cab fare: $150
Cell phone: $95
Food: $450
Discretionary: $200
With that in mind, I'm looking for a room share (max 2 other roommates) in the $800-1000 price range. Safety is very important, as is finding a nice apartment. I'd like to live fairly close to The New School, or at least not have a hideous subway ride. I can obviously expect to find excellent food options, cafes, bookstores, film venues, and cool cultural stuff virtually anywhere in NYC, but I'd like to find a comfortable neighborhood. Frankly. noise and lots of traffic are concerns. I realize I'll have to deal with this if I live in NYC, but are there any areas that are slightly more relaxed?
