I am a creature of habit so have my go to places for me favorite foods. But I am on a search for the best pizza in Manhattan &/or Brooklyn. There are hundreds of options and no time to try them all.
I am talking about a pie where the flavor of the ingredients simply explodes in your mouth. I have had great pies but the place that stands out the most is Eataly on 5th Ave at 24th St. I think it's called the Neopolitan but I just describe it and they bring it. Exploding flavor and incredible mozzarella.
I want to see if I can beat this one and want to try other recommendations. I am talking serious gourmet pizza, yet authentic. You guys know what I mean. At least Mario Batali does.
I like Cafe Viva (their corn crust, pesto and red onion pizza is delicious) and Patsy's. Monty Q's downtown Brooklyn is also pretty good. Also Difara! (Thanks to poster below for spelling it out...I previously left it off my list as I wasn't sure of the spelling.)

I 2nd L&B(Spumoni Gardens), as well as La Bella's both on 86st.
I've gotten some good pies from Randazzo's on Ditmas ave.
Ave.U supposedly has some famous pizza place which charges $5/slice but they are x2 the size w/3 toppings.
On 7th ave the one at the entrance to F train is good, but I prefer the less busy one across from B&N.
I have rarely had bad pizza in Brooklyn, but did recently walk out of a pizzeria on 86st(there are some 7 of them) as the owner was on the phone and just kept me waiting too long.
Oh, and Grimaldi's is real famous; I heard Hillary Clinton likes the one under Brooklyn Bridge.
I didnt care for Little Caesar's nor Pizza Hut; I got mixed results from Sbarro's and Domino's, but Papa John's is never a miss.

Anything with the words "BEST" are purely subjective. Case in point i think the pizza in eataly is terrible lol.
I would suggest artichoke on 14st btwn 1st and 2 ave.
