We want to go somewhere one night. Leaving on a saturday and returning sunday evening. I will drive. any ideas?
I was looking at Newport Rhode Island. But Im not sure if its worth it. I mean, check in at the Mariott is 4 pm, then we have to leave the next day. Its $300.00 per night, and a 3 hour drive. Not much time ot do much, and not so cheap.

HELP!

$300 a night is a bit high, I assume you can do better.
Also I am not familiar with Newport. Boston should be not much further and there is a lot to do and see there (me and my wife had a great time there).
Also while many hotels post 3-4pm check in, I always check in around noon almost everyone without an issue.
Philly also makes a nice overnight trip, and you can take the bus there quick and cheap.

You can take the Cannonball from Long Island City or Jamaica to the Eastern part of LI.

Summer is high season for Newport, of course it’s going to be expensive. Do you want to go to the beach or just get out of the city? All of the seaside towns are going to be very crowed and expensive right now. If you just want to get out of the city, perhaps something in the Hudson Valley? The landscape is beautiful and there are lots of B&Bs up there that would be relaxing and affordable.

Fire Island, NY (unique, awesome beach getaway...better suited for full weekend, though).

Avon-by-the-Sea, NJ (lots of bed and breakfasts).

Lambertville, NJ / New Hope, PA (bed and breakfasts, boutiques, great restaurants, very quaint country village). Stay in Lambertville (more quaint, and better restaurants) and walk across bridge to New Hope for shops and nightlife.

Bear Mountain area: Hiking and other outdoor activities.

Nyack, NY: Nice downtown area, on the Hudson River.

Spring Lake, NJ: Very nice, high end beach town with charming Main Street.

Greenwich, CT: High end boutiques, nice downtown.

South Norwalk, CT: Quaint old nautical town.

Atlantic City??

I recommend Red Bank, NJ. My husband and I went to Red Bank in June for a wedding, and it is a great town. There are a lot of really nice bars, shops and restaurants. It is on a river, but I guess the beaches are only 15 - 20 minutes away.
We took NJ Transit right into downtown Red Bank, I think it was only about 75 minutes.
We stayed at the Oyster Point Hotel, and thought it was beautiful. Ask for a river view room.

RI and Boston are too far for just one night away. What about Mystic CT, Long Beach (on LI).

My husband and I just spenta weekend at the Mt. Airey Resort and Casino. remodelled since the old Mt Airey Lodge commercials of the 70s. it is like a mini versoin of an Atlantic City type hotel. If you enjoy gambling, you will like it. Only negatives: if you DON'T enjoy gambling you may be bored ont eh property (tho the outlet stores are nearby) and ther is no pool.

Mt Airy Resort is very nice. We usually make a stop on 3 day weekends in the Poconos ourselves.
In general, the Poconos are generally a quick drive and there is lots to do.
