Great thread subject! I am surprised there were no responses yet.

Personally, I know so many people that live in New York City for an extended period of time that don't know the actual nightlife places well. I think I probably fit into this category too.

However, I do know about Terminal 5 which is a great nightlife/music venue/dance club place! Terminal 5 is located on 610 West 56th st. between 11th and 12th avenue sort of on the border between Upper West Side and Midtown West.

Also, there is the Cake Shop which is a great bar, music venue, and cafe all in the same place! It is located in the East Village. Cake Shop is on 152 Ludlow Street between Rivington St. and Stanton St.

I am soon going to start college and I hope to find out more NYC nightlife places in the near future.

NYC has a stale and terrible bar and club scene that's been in decline for years.

All the best uprooted and went to Miami.

Hard to find a major city amongst the world (even US) with a worse club scene than NYC

Yea I knew I hated the MIA for a reason. NYC's bar scene is more than adequate IMO but I stay clear of clubs.

This. NYC nightlife scene is basically bottle-service lounges now. Hipsters, Yuppies, and wannabe ballers have taken over the club scene. It's gotten to the point where I would recommend Philly over NYC as far as nightlife is concerned.

NY has always been pretentious when it comes to Night life. Recall Studio 54 who started a lot of it.

MIAMI no different

Miami can BE pretentious when they have clubs hosting world renowned DJs, staying open till 5AM, and filling up with people from across the state, country, and world.

No clubs in NYC last anymore.

I hear very mixed things about New York City's nightlife scene.

Some say how NYC has such a great nightlife scene and one of the greatest in the world. But then others say NYC's nightlife scene is not that great and that it pales in comparison compared to plenty of other cities.

I am not sure what to believe anymore.
I know New York City's nightlife scene a little bit but I don't know it that well.
I assume though the nightlife scene is pretty good compared to plenty of places.

I would make a distinction also between "Nightlife" and "Clubbing". Not all nightlife involves clubbing. I find NYC great for lounges, etc.

Everyone is going to have a different opinion on some levels, and depends on what they are into-

but all people can agree that the nightlife that revolves around music- clubs, and bars with live performers/live music has DRASTICALLY died from 15-20 years ago.

Lounges thrive, as do overpriced drinks in them- but for many that's hardly a consideration for Nightlife. Otherwise every city with an Applebees would have a major nightlife.
