To tell you the truth south jamaica queens is a bad neighborhood overall but there are some very good parts in the neighborhood where you'll feel quite at home at. I live on Sutphin Boulevard and 109 Avenue which I think is one of the safest places to be in southside. Sadrajbaali is right, the street called Guy R. Brewer Blvd is very bad indeed. Most if not all the hardcore gangbangers, hustlers, and the mob joints tend to hang out there but anywhere west of that street is 100% A ok. Just see for yourself. I've known many people here that lived here for over 20 years and they have all said the same thing. Another thing to point out is that the overall crime in the city is going down. Areas in Jamaica such as 168th st. and Hillside Ave. used to be a rundown and poverty stricken neighborhood. But look at it today, it's filled with multicultural people and some of the wealthiest people live there. And I'm not referring to Jamaica Estates. South Jamaica is also on the same trend as in Hillside Ave. I am Bangladeshi and back in 1999-2001 no Bengali or other South Asian for that matter would dare tread on hillside but today we have lots of stores and business that we just opened up because our people love the neighbordhood now. South Jamaica is also becoming like this because all those rundown barricated one family homes are being auctioned off and sold to developers that are building multifamily Mcmansion homes. Come and see my block, you'll see lots of new developments going up. Sure as hell, I bought and live in one of these new houses too.

Yup. Maybe there's a few blocks that have new construction on it that the above poster is talking about, but Suthpin Boulevard is not a nice part of Jamaica

there's beach channel high school and beach channel drive which is the main street of the rockaways it runs up and down the peninsula. maybe you're thinking of broad channel which is an island in jamaica bay....its considered part of the rockaways and is served by a subway stop on the A train of the same name....

far rockaway is from the nassau county border to beach 32nd street. all the other neighborhoods on the rockaway peninsula (far rockaway, edgemere, arverne, rockaway beach, sommerville, hammels, seaside, rockaway park, belle harbor, neponsit, fort tilden, breezy point) & broad channel collectively make up "the rockaways".

Default Comments From A South Side Resident!!!

Well yes all the comments about South Side are true, and yes 50 cent and many others are a product of the community, but you must put into consideration the come up South Side has made. The neighborhood is not main topic on the news anymore and more cops are killing people more than the residents are. Of course rap, killing and drug sales happens in "poor, Dirty" South Side but those same things exsist in the more "priviliged, ritzy" parts of the upper eastside. The only difference is southside is populated by minority and has noone on its side to help. Manhattan just knows how to cover up there problems.

South Side Jamaica Queens

Three main areas - Forty, Brick Town, The Jungle (across the park from Bricktown)

Many areas of Queens and all of NYC for that matter, during the time 50 cent was growing up, were devastated.
It was the crack cocaine era and there are many higher property areas that were also negatively effected and haven't yet FULLY recovered.

Its not a place where you want to walk around at three in the morning alone and wandering, but where is such a place?

Don't believe the hpye!

I spent a lot of time there throughout many years, and still go to Liberty Park and work out on a regular basis, no problem.

And by the way, don't hate on 50.

He's a talented, very brilliant, and very rich business man.

And Run DMC, Salt and Pepper, LL Cool J are from around the corner and down the block.

(I didn't know Pharoahe Monch was from south side)
