People who make a lot of money at a young age because they're very good at what they do don't really have a lot in common with young rich people who have inherited all their wealth. If your research paper is somehow grouping them together, I would think you're working off of the wrong assumptions. These two sets of people would not hang out together, they would not frequent the same places, and they would not have the same outlook in life.

because they ones who are rich by family and the ones who are self made regardless of their age that are under lets say 35 hang together, network together. How I know I see it in NYC and LA social nite life and the fashion industry as well as hollywood.

Well, this might be true for some people; but people who make a lot of money when they're young either: (a) work really hard and don't have much time for that type of social life and/or (b) are nerds and don't feel comfortable in those surroundings.

You do realize that people who make a lot of money at a young age are not necessarily wealthy? This is especially the case in New York City. The wealthy network with the wealthy is only true for REALLY wealthy people.

No, that's not better. We're talking about completely different social classes here. People who inherit wealth tend to network with others that attended prep schools and who they have probably known since they were very young. They also tend to spend an inordinate amount of time in other cities and countries since they don't need to work for a living and when they do, it's mostly for show.
Young professionals who are very competent and thus make a lot of money tend to network with similar professionals. Their primary interest is work related matters. That's why they are so successful in the first place.
These are very different social classes. The whole "well off young folks network with other well off young folks" is an oversimplification.

Great post. Don't even get how it's that difficult to understand for some people... Maybe if you broke it down and gave them examples... Would a person who came from a poor background and ended up working his way out of that lifestyle to the point where he became a young successful businessman hang out with a person who has the same amount of money because of his/her parents...
The self-made man who works for a living wants to socialize with other people who take work just as seriously and appreciate and value what they have... Just like a person who has had everything handed to him/her in life wants to be around people that have enjoyed that same lifestyle... A working man/woman doesn't want to socialize with a person that he/she may consider spoiled... and on the flipside, someone who has inherited his/her money does not want to be around someone who may look down at them for not having earned their money... it's as simple as that... two completely different types of people and you'd probably be looking at two completely different neighborhoods...
Now, which classification your child falls under would be up to you if you want to divulge that information but I'd suggest you'd really have to take a look not only at the average salary of a neighborhood but rather the type of person that lives in the neighborhood...
