Dude, no. NY will suck for you if you can barely get by. There are better places to live if the max you can make is $2k a month (how do you earn $24k a year with a college degree anyway? even fashion pr slavery pays like $30k or more).

This is so mean but still makes me laugh. I would not move to NY for that amount of money unless I were pretty much "guaranteed" to do much better in at most a year.

I agree that 2K/month in current income will not be sufficient to cover current spending. But the OP is 21 years old. Wouldn't it make sense for him to incur debt in his youth, assuming that his income would rise through the future years? It's just a standard "dynamic programming problem."
Of course, he would eventually have to make sure that the future excess of income over spending would be sufficient to service the debt incurred in his youth, and that may be too much to ask of today's myopic economic agents.
