Taking public transit to LGA is a cross to bear. You need to drive to LGA. The peeps that mentioned Jax heights or Astoria are giving good advice. Maybe you can look at College Point, Whitestone or Bayside as solid close-in alternates. Manhattan may sound appealing but you are going to spend hours each day in a holding pattern on your approach to work. Good luck with the LGA tower; one of the toughest towers in the world. Please vector some departures over Williamsburg to annoy those nasal hipster transplants. You can be part of our ''city-data hipster relotion'' plan from your position in the LGA tower.

Just re-read what you wrote.. You're right, the east village is a long commute. I'll definitely take a look at your east side recommendations. Thanks again

REGO PARK.
Close to LaGuardia, Safe, easy subway commute into Manhattan and your budget will get you a terrific apartment to rent or to buy.

If he's living in Astoria or Jackson Heights, transit is perfectly doable. It's cheaper to take a bus, and then call a car service when you're in a rush than it is to go through the hassle and expense of owning a car. Parking in western Queens is pretty hard.

Now if he lived east of Flushing Meadows, a car would be easier (though transit would still be somewhat doable)
