well monday the management co and super tried to get in there for the scheduled inspection and she of course pretended to not be home..duh coulda seen that coming a mile away
hall is starting to smell more nasty then usual due to heat and humidity and its now invaded the elevator..so everyone gets to smell it..so gross but hopefully as it invades other parts of the building management will finally take some real action
not much to update...the hallway on our floor always smells but the smell is horrendous at night..not sure why it gets worse after dark but its like walking through a garbage dump..management company is pretending it doesnt smell at all ..
we thought renting in a co-op building would be more civilized then renting in a regular aparment building..what a joke..this place is a smelly pit of despair with a fancy lobby , 24/7 doorman and impeccable grounds outside..its advertised as one of the nicest buildings in the neighborhood..ha!
no action taken from management about the garbage stink but today they decided to try to hide the stink by saturating the hallway carpet with something so nasty that you cant even get it out of your nose or clothes or hair when you get outside (gasping for fresh air by then)
well it hasnt smelled in a week or two ..no idea why not because we still dont see her ever come out of the apartment but whatever..she can be tossing her garbage out her back window for all we know ..but...who cares as long as it doesnt smell like a landfill anymore in the hallway and our apt I am happy. Of course the mgmt co finally came out to sniff around with some board members and it didnt reek like it usually does so as of now case seems to be closed
These hallways are supposed to be power vented, it's the law, but for the life of me I cannot figure out how so many managers and supers have no clue how to do it.
I live in a very well kept building that spends a fortune on maintenance but do you think they can get these vents to work? In a word, NO.
If you don't have good venting and your hallways smells, call 311...EVERY SINGLE DAY.

yea the vents are there but they dont do anything except suck the smell directly to our door ..if you go floor to floor everyone has these vents closed AND most of the floors smell like something nasty...part of it is probably the old nasty carpet that needs to be replaced..carpets are such a dumb idea in a building especially if you arent going to shampoo regularly or replace them every few years
311 was here and reported they didnt smell anything..and since it hasnt smelled in about 2 weeks I cant even argue it...it is beginning to stink again this morning though...I knew it was too good to be true.
Call NYS department of children and family services and file a senior self-abuse complaint. 1-800-342-3009 Let them know that she is living in filth and squalor and seems to be unable to care for herself and unaware of the living conditions, possibly due to a mental defect. They are required by law to investigate, including requiring her to show them her living conditions. They will assess and most likely formulate a corrective plan. If she refuses to follow it, they can actually get her committed.

thanks for that info ..if the situation arises again I will look into that
as of now it seems someone is removing her garbage daily..she cannot do it..she, I am told, can barely move anymore even with her walker so I know its not her doing it all of a sudden.. someone must be doing it for her which is A-OK with us
..lets see how long it lasts...fingers crossed!

It sounds like there is possibly a home health aide coming in to help her with day-to-day living needs. Hopefully it's a good one who will work towards cleaning the place up. Good luck!
