I know people think this about Jackson Heights because of what they see on Roosevelt Ave and on 82nd St., etc., but once you get off of 37th Ave into the historic district of Jackson Heights, it is very quiet. I am sitting here right now, less than a block from 37th Ave and I could hear a pin drop.
However, it is definitely true that it is a much busier neighborhood than Sunnyside.
I am not sure the going rate for studios in Jackson Heights, but I am guessing between $1100 and $1300. It would be a good location to get to both airports. LGA would be a breeze -- just hop on a bus and ride for 20 minutes. JFK is a bit further but still easy as far as taking public transportation.
I would never, ever suggest to someone to live in Sunset Park or Bay Ridge if they are commuting to the airports. I think Sunnyside, Jackson Heights and Forest Hills are good choices but the studios may be more than $1100.
