Recently moved from ATL but from NY. Love shooting pistols at the range it’s a stress reliever. I have not shot a gun in a year and really need the practice would eventually like to join a gun club if those exist in NY. When I was in ATL I could go to the range and purchase rounds, targets and rent whatever pistol I wanted or bring my own pistol. The only thing required was that you are of age and some places made you watch a 10 min video on safety. So what pistol rangers are in the NYC or Long Island area that I can go to? Can I rent or must I have my own pistol? Do I have to have a license or permit if I can rent? I do plan to apply for a license but compared to $35 in GA the NY $300 plus application fee is not in my budget right now. Any help would be appreciated.

Default westside range

Don't waste your time going to Jersey. Anyone can shoot at Westside Pistol Range. $65 for the first visit (including gun rental, targets ammo)and $35 after that. This place is on the same block as the Limelight.

nope! read it again, i believe thats to shoot only a .22 caliber rifle.. no handguns....

as far as i know you can not touch a handgun even at a range without either the pre-authorization granted by nypd to a person who applied for their perment and has already passed most of the checks or by having a nyc permit

It's a gun it is mid-town Manhattan and you can shoot it for $35. Its not like they give you a salad shooter; a 22 rifle is a robust rifle that holds five in the clip and has very little recoil.

op was asking about pistol shooting.. shooting a .22 rifle is quite boring even for my wife at an indoor range... not much challange and not much fun. but regardless he was asking about pistol shooting.

as far as new jersey goes its very un-clear about out of staters renting a gun to shoot. one answere i got was it only applys to new jersey residents and you needed a nj drivers licence.

65 bucks seems very high, my old range did require you to come with a member but to shoot a .22 was 5 buck rental for the rifle, 5 bucks to shoot and 5 bucks for a box of ammo .... havent been a member for years so not sure of current rates but im sure they are close.

Upstate NY or PA is probably your best bet unless you have buddies who are in law enforcement that can maybe bend the rule here there when you go with them to a shooting range in NY.

in pa anyone who can pass an insta check can shoot. i still believe they cant touch a handgun in ny state though without a state permit but im not sure 100%. the city is a definate... in fact even with a city permit do you know i cant even shoot my wifes handgun as an example. you are restricted to only whats registered to your permit.

there must be some provisions for ranges to rent though as for 5 bucks you could rent anything you wanted to try at my old range but you needed a permit....

Thanks to everyone for there input. I will check out all options suggested. I do not have any law enforcement buddies in this state but I hope to become a member of the NYPD some day when they start hiring again.

Oh, for the record I am a female. Girls like guns to..lol. Thanks all.
