Which giant complex? The bus terminal, or the building at 15th with "Port of New York Authority" carved in stone above its entrance? :-)
Hahaha, good one. And that name was changed to the more accurate "Port Authority of New York and New Jersey" more than 30 years ago. I guess they couldn't change the name on the building, though.
I worked for a while at One Madison Avenue, which was the original Met Life Building and for about four years, the tallest building in Manhattan. And when I walked out on the Park Avenue South side and looked north, I'd see a big black building that said MET LIFE on the top.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. New names for highways, streets, and bridges will only "stick" if they're short and no harder to say than the old names. Maybe a few exceptions I cant think of, but generally I think this is true.
And then next year paint over the GUILIANI BRIDGE sign with QUINN BRIDGE.
(We live about 80 years and bridges live to be 100 or more? Isn't it stupiid to keep changing names every couple decades? Worse, to honor dishonorable politicians.)
