She's much better off considering places Dallas, which has a high Asian population and a lower cost of living- not to mention no state or city income taxes. Can she afford to have her housing costs increase 500% for half the space, pay 100% more for food/hygiene supplies, and pay city and state taxes on top of Federal income taxes?

Carrolton, Richardson, Irving, Plano are all places she may want to look into. I wonder if part of her problem was living in the wrong neighborhoods, there is ethnic diversity in DFW but people tend to cluster in ethnic enclaves (true for NYC as well) and one needs to seek them out rather than stay put in a neighborhood devoid of their ethnicity. Did she ever consider moving to a different neighborhood in TX with more Chinese people before thinking about NYC?

I don't know where she's staying at the moment but on May 26th there's going to be a Dragon Boat, Kite and Lantern Festival in Irving (DFW Dragon Boat Festival) that might be fun for her and her daughter. There's lots of Asian grocery stores in Plano, Richardson and Carrolton.

As far as moving so her daughter can go to college in the Northeast- she doesn't have to move to do that. Her daughter just needs to apply to colleges in the NE and once she's done with high school her daughter can go to college wherever she wants irregardless of where the mother is living. The public schools in NYC are crap.
