I agree with you. Most progressive Brooklyn neighborhoods tend to be very liberal and highly educated like Park Slope, Clinton Hill, baby stroller Williamsburg, Western edges of Bedstuy, Propspect Heights, Greenpoint. Bay Ridge is a traditional classic NYC neighborhood and that's not going to change anytime soon, and its very affordable for working class, middle class blue collar and city workers. It is a diverse neighborhood and I'm sure Hispanics may date whites and vice versa or maybe middle easterners date outside their race or what not but its looked down upon if these groups date Blacks. But I think its best for the OP to live in North Western Brooklyn which is more accepting of Black and White interracial relationship such as Park Slope or Fort Green.
As an Asian-looking guy I have been to BR area and felt that it is not a friendly neighborhood. It has a blue collar feeling but with nicer appearances than average Blyn hoods. There are nice people there too, but overall I just felt that is a closed community.
I know of a Transplant who moved to Bay Ridge with her Midwestern Boyfriend plus a toddler in tow. In two years they were happy to leave and move back to Manhattan. They felt if there were unwanted in the area. Lets not forget their was a post some years ago about an Italian American guy moving to Bensonhurts with his African American wife and if that would be a problem if they moved to that area. But posters said it would not be a problem for a Italian/Black couple because much of Bensonhurts Italian population declined over the years and has become increasingly Eastern in demographics.

Repped you. An older white gay who lived in Bay Ridge told me of the issues he had with conservatives there. He didn't describe the people there as too welcoming. Granted, this is a sexual orientation issue, but still.
Then again, this guy was a politically active person. Perhaps you should check out the area yourself, to see what your impression of it is? You can look around to see if you see interracial couples, to see if you and your husband feel comfortable in the area, etc.
lol... You think the opinion of one black person who lived or current lives in bay ridge will speak for all of them?
very good point!!
