Awful. The poor decision cost him his life. It's amazing how attached people get to stuff, Esp things like this that eventually malfunction or get replaced for the latest one.
He's stupid for touching the third rail. This moron probably thought the subway runs on organic horse sh** biofuel
I think what happens is that a young healthy person like this rarely thinks tragedy will befall them, And if they do this "Just this one time" it will be ok so they take the gamble. It was a poor decision combined with overconfidence. How many of us here have gone on the tracks before? I have many times in my younger days. Now? Hell no.
Dozens if New Yorkers, well many of them Transplants risk their lives for a dead mans latest greatest, trendiest faddish device. I cant wait until the iphone craze in NYC dies down just like apple stock price.
It was obviously a bad choice--but for a young person a smartphone (especially an iPhone) is often their prize possession. He probably got it on contract and was faced with the possibility of paying at least $650 to replace it. That's a lot of money for a young person or someone who doesn't make a lot.
You can go on and on about how your life isn't worth $650--and you'd be right--but in the heat of the moment the kid probably panicked and thought he could just retrieve it quickly. He deserves sympathy and not so much judgement.
