I just found out about a Greek restaurant (Christos Gyro) in the Bronx (in Kingsbridge) to be exact that I want to try via delivery since I am not driving down to Kingsbridge and wasting gas just for a gyro. I was shocked that they only take cash. It's something I've noticed living here in Riverdale and it's quite annoying since these days most people use credit cards or debit cards. I wanted to know if this is a general trend in other neighborhoods or is it just in Riverdale and areas in the Bronx?

I don't know if it's a trend in certain neighborhoods, but I know of a diner in Tribeca that is cash only.

Is it an old diner or a recent one? It seems like most of the old time places run like this. To be honest I would eat at some places in Riverdale more if they took credit cards, but I hate the idea of having to run and get out cash. Years ago I eat at a restaurant in Manhattan and found out that they didn't take credit cards only after we had eaten. I had to run across the street to an ATM and take out cash.
With a credit card you can simply swipe and go and don't have to worry about bringing enough cash with you. I realize there's a fee, but these stores would benefit from increased business.

I just googled them....they've been there since 1971.

ALDI'S with the cheapest prices in town takes only CASH or DEBIT...no CREDIT cards.
(Credit cards charge retailers a fee for each transaction, sometimes a HEFTY fee.)
Cash only businesses can also hide a lot of income from the tax man.
Clearly the use of cash today is more of a generational thing. I notice that the 20/30 somethings rarely have cash on them and use their debit cards for everything. Its sort of ridiculous to see people have to charge a cup of coffee at 7/11 because they dont have a couple of bucks handy.
Reminds me of the day the card processing machines went down in our buildings cafeteria. All these losers had to forego lunch because they didnt even have a few dollars to pay for food.
There are a lot of cash only businesses in Jackson Heights. My wife and I are now in the habit of asking if we don't see a credit card symbol displayed in clear view.

I don't think it's an area thing. Some business owners for whatever reason don't want to deal with credit/debit cards. Probably the processing fees.
You would think such an upscale area like Riverdale with such hoity toity residents would accept cards accross the board.
