Natural looks, no. At least not in an office. But presentability (which we all have control over), definitely. As they say - dress for the job you want, not the job you have.

Let's be honest. If you're an attractive woman, chances are you're getting that promotion.

Are talking about physical attractiveness? And what do you mean by 'getting ahead'?

I belive attractive people do get perks that 'average-looking people' don't.
And while attractive people can use their natural gift to their advantage under certain circumtances, I don't think you can get ahead in your career enterily on looks. Unless, your career is in the porn industry, of course.

All other things being equal, I think physical attractiveness makes a difference in terms of "getting ahead" -- but eventually you have to prove yourself like anyone else. However, I don't think it matters more here than other places. I agree that regardless, you have to dress in a professional manner (whatever that means in your workplace).

Not really. There are still men who are bosses and hold a woman's good looks against her, as in the "dumb blond" stereotype. There are also men (and women) who distrust a good-looking woman because they figure she's slept with someone to get where she is, or will sleep with someone to get what she wants.

Looking like a well-dressed, physically healthy, professional can help anyone. But looking movie-star gorgeous can be a defintie drawback for women.

I've seen it become an increasing trend to send a headshot with the resume - and I'm not talking about acting jobs.

I would think that people who are attractive and dress well have an advantage.
As some have noted, there are always exceptions to this rule.
I knew one business owner who divorced and married an attractive younger employee. After that, all his female workers were approved by the new wife, and were dowdy or unattractive!

I think attractive people may have an advantage in getting a job they are qualified for. Once in the job it wont matter much if you arent producing quality work
