My kids and I watched the New year's eve ball drop and I told my kids all these people are just there standing in the cold to see a ball drop.

My 8 year old son says "all these people are soooo soooo stupid!"

I told my son "Very good, you are now smarter than the 500k idiots there that are willing to stand 4-10 hours long in the cold to see a ball drop and other annoying people."

I watched the ball drop 78-79 and 88-89. back then i had boundless energy and loved the city so much I didn't care about danger or cold. and believe me, especially the 78-79 ball drop there was PLENTY of danger lurking about

Tell your son there is people willing to stand out frigid cold and watch Opossum Drop.
I heard about this last year an thought oh just a few hillbillies in a small town but apparently this is larger than it should be with people driving across country to see.

A Possum's Tale: New Year's Eve in Brasstown, NC (Possum Drop) - YouTube

There is nothing dropping or shooting up in air or any festival worth stsnding in crowds or cold.

Once is an experience more than once is strange, My guess is your son will grow up to be a very very boring person and should consider moving as soon as he is of age if he lives in the city,

the younger you are the more likely one will be to go to TImes Square on New Years eve and find it fun

but if you have health issues and things like panic attacks (like Ive developed) you probably won't want to go unless youre having a really good day and night!!

Totally agree..... and don't ya love how a parent "congratulates" the kid on being "smarter" than 500K people? She/he should have said "different people like to do different things. I wouldn't do it, but they all look like they're having fun!"
