Hello
I took the shsat and the tachs in 2013, and I got a 50% scholarship to Archbishop Molloy. My parents and I are debating whether I should go to Molloy, or whichever specialized high school I get into. I know Molloy isn't very expensive, but my mom insists on finding out Molloys ranking in nyc and if it is better than specialized high schools. I couldn't find any answers on google and don't know what else to search. If anyone goes to or has kids that go to specialized high schools or Archbishop Molloy, can you please tell me what you think?

Are you Catholic? That should be the #1 reason to be a Stanner.

I was in the same situation as you about 20yrs ago, I was going to go to Molloy, or whichever specialized HS I got into. In the end I went to Brooklyn tech, my bigger concern back then was also the safety of the neighborhood, which I think isn't an issue today in Brooklyn. It was the best decision for me and think any of the specialized schools are better than the parochial schools. You will probably be better prepared for college and will look better when applying to college.
I look back at most of my peers that went to Tech and people I know that went to Catholic HS and overall see more success w/ the Tech graduates.
With that said, if you are a good student, you will do ok either way.

The #1 reason to attend a Catholic HS is to learn your religion. If your not Catholic or a practicing Catholic then why go to Catholic School? The same reason Jewish families send their kids to Yeshivas to learn their faith. Molloy went coed a few years back which from what I've been told really helped the school academically. I think it's the #1 catholic school in Queens.
It would also depend on which specialized school. Brooklyn Latin, Bronx Science and Stuyvesant are truly exceptional schools with national reputations. If you can get into one of those I would definitely go.

YOU might that is the #1 reason to attend a Catholic HS, but for lots of parents they feel their kids are safer, less likely to associate w/ troubled kids and getting a better education because they are paying $$$ for it. I'm not saying that is the case, but that is the thinking of a lot of parents

I agree with you. BTW, I would put Regis HS in the city up against any hs in the NY area.
